RENTAL PLANNING
Renting can simplify transport, but the provider’s rules become part of your trip plan. Confirm the exact machine, allowed riding area, gear, requirements, and recovery plan before you book.
Start With Your Group
Know how many people are riding, how many seats you need, the experience level in the group, and whether everyone will ride together. Two seats versus four or more can change comfort, luggage, pace, and booking needs.
Two Seats vs Four or More
Confirm the provider’s exact seating configuration. Do not assume a four-seat machine has the same handling, storage, or comfort as a two-seat machine.
Exact Model vs Similar Machine
Ask for the exact model or the provider’s defined substitute. Similar-looking machines can differ in width, wheelbase, seating, tires, clearance, controls, and required gear.
Where the Rental Is Allowed
Ask which trail systems, routes, roads, private areas, and provider-approved locations are allowed. A provider’s permission does not override current official maps, posted signs, closures, direction, or vehicle restrictions.
Guided vs Unguided Use
Confirm whether a guide is required, optional, or unavailable for your booking. Do not generalize one provider’s guided-use policy to another.
Driver and Passenger Requirements
Ask about age, license, training, passenger restrictions, and any required documents. Provider-specific requirements control the rental agreement.
Permits, Helmets and Included Gear
Confirm who supplies permits, helmets, belts, goggles, tools, maps, and other gear. Ask what must be returned and what condition is expected.
Pickup, Delivery and Return
Confirm the exact pickup location, delivery availability, timing, return location, cleaning expectations, and late-return rules. Do not assume delivery or trailhead pickup.
Mileage / Hours / Fuel / Washing
Ask how mileage, engine hours, fuel, washing, mud, and after-hours returns are handled. Do not assume limits or fees without the provider’s current terms.
Damage Hold / Deposit / Insurance Questions
Ask the provider to explain the deposit or damage hold, insurance or waiver options, exclusions, deductible, and what happens after a breakdown or damage report.
Breakdown, Towing and Recovery
Ask who responds, where towing is available, what the renter must do, and whether recovery is included. Get the emergency number before leaving.
Weather and Cancellation
Read the current cancellation, rescheduling, severe-weather, and no-show rules. Provider policies differ.
